Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

1725 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo has not received a free travel pass. [17023/02]

The child to whom the Deputy refers is not entitled to free travel as she is under 16 years of age and not registered as blind.

The only category of children under 16 years who are eligible for free travel in their own right under the scheme are those who are registered as blind with either the National Council for the Blind of Ireland or the National League of the Blind of Ireland.

The child's mother, who is in receipt of a carer's allowance, has a standard free travel pass.
