Vol. 557 No. 1

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

204 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Finance further to Parliamentary Question No. 270 of 5 November 2002, when he expects the careful examination by the Commissioners of Public Works of observations of the flood relief scheme for St. John's River, Waterford city; when he expects work to commence to deal with the flooding on the Waterford to Tramore Road; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21587/02]

Works to alleviate flooding on the Tramore Road form part of the St. John's River (Waterford city) drainage scheme. Examination and preparation of responses to the observations received following the public exhibition of the scheme is likely to take a number of months yet. Any alterations to the scheme which arise from this process will then have to be incorporated into the design of the scheme. When the design is completed the scheme will be submitted to the Minister for Finance for confirmation in accordance with the Arterial Drainage Acts, 1945 and 1995. Following confirmation, the detailed design of the scheme and tendering for the works will commence.

In light of the above, it is not possible, at this stage to say when work on the scheme will commence.
