323 Mr. Coveney asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if promised funding for a number of pilot projects in the area of wireless broadband provision will be made available by his Department; and if so, when. [21381/02]
Last August my Department advertised a call for a trial of wireless technology for the provision of broadband access. A total of 29 applications were received by the September deadline for submissions. The funding available for this call is €300,000. Following an evaluation process, five of the submissions were short-listed. These are being considered at present and meetings are being held with the applicants. Following the completion of the process I will make an announcement about the successful applicants. I would hope to be in a position to do so in December.
