Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - National Development Plan.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

404 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the way in which he expects the current economic situation to impact on the NDP; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21276/03]

The National Development Plan 2000-06 is currently subject to a mid-term evaluation by a team of independent evaluators, led by the ESRI. This evaluation should be finalised by the end of October. Each of the operational programmes within the NDP are also the subject of independent evaluations. The evaluators, in conducting the mid-term evaluations, have been asked to take account of the current economic situation and the future prospects for Exchequer investment in the NDP, including the possible Exchequer resources available.

The Government will conduct a mid-term review of the NDP later this year, this review will take account of the findings of the evaluations, the current and medium term outlook of the economy generally and the budgetary outlook in particular.
