Vol. 574 No. 5

Written Answers. - Land Registry Office Charges.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

223 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason community groups cannot obtain details of the names of shareholders on a commonage from the Land Registry Office without paying a very large charge; and the further reason that Departments can obtain this information for free. [27639/03]

The Deputy will be aware that the fees set down for business transacted with the Land Registry Office are prescribed by statutory instrument, the latest of which is the Land Registry (Fees) Order 1999 – S.I. No. 343 of 1999. The fees set out in this order were subsequently amended by the rounding exercise implemented for the introduction of the euro.

The Deputy will also appreciate that the Land Registry Office is not conferred with discretion in the application of the prescribed fees, which must be paid in advance. Departments are exempted from the payment of land registry fees.
