Vol. 576 No. 5

Written Answers. - Departmental Funding.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

334 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children the amount of funding allocated by his Department to the Alzheimer's Society of Ireland; if the SEHB has allocated funds at regional level to it; and if funding is ring-fenced for particular projects or is a general grant. [29814/03]

The Alzheimer's Society of Ireland receives funding sourced by my Department in two ways. First, it receives a Departmental grant, paid via the ERHA, for core funding of general administration costs. The grant stands at €1.03 million for this year. Second, the South-Eastern Health Board allocated a grant of €491,942 to the society in 2003 for the development of day care centres, home care programmes and supportive events for the care of people with dementia and their carers, in the board's administrative area.
