Vol. 10 No. 12

CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CLAIM FOR RETURN OF GUN.

DOMHNALL O MUIRGHEASA

asked the Minister for Defence if he has received repeated applications from William Dwyer, solicitor, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary, for the return of a double-barrelled breech-loading gun which was taken from him by the R.I.C. authorities on 20th May, 1920; whether he has been successful in tracing, and when he will be in a position to return same, or what compensation he is prepared to pay the owner for loss should he fail to trace or return this valuable gun.

Application has been received from Mr. Dwyer for the return of his gun. Efforts have been made to trace it amongst surrendered arms handed over by the British authorities to the Department of Defence but without success.

In accordance with the official procedure designed to facilitate the tracing of such arms, and published in the Press on the 18th September last, Mr. Dwyer has been requested to furnish certain essential particulars to the Chief Ordnance Officer, Woolwich. who will be best able to say where the gun should be. Pending the completion of the procedure referred to, it is not practicable to say anything on the question of compensation.
