Vol. 21 No. 16

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - FISHING PIER AT INISHFREE.

asked the Minister for Fisheries if a sum of £400 was allocated by the Land Commission in the year 1924 for the purpose of erecting a landing place or pier at Inishfree, Tirconaill, and, if so, whether he will state the reason why the work was not carried out, and if, in view of the urgent need for a landing place or pier on the island he is now prepared to issue instructions for the work to be commenced immediately.

No work in connection with the construction of a landing place at Inishfree was carried out by the Land Commission, but any representations which may be made in regard to the necessity for a landing place will be placed before the Minister for Finance for consideration.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that owing to the fact that there is no landing place or pier at Inishfree the fishermen have very often to risk their lives to save their boats, and in view of that fact will he give immediate instructions to have a pier or landing place provided, because I am sure that neither Deputies nor the Parliamentary Secretary wish to see another fishing disaster?

I have already said that any proposals put forward in regard to this landing place will receive consideration.
