Vol. 41 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Evicted Tenants on Donegal Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state when the sale of Lord Leitrim's estate in Co. Donegal will be completed and whether the evicted tenants of that estate will be reinstated on their holdings.

The tenanted lands on the Earl of Leitrim's estate in Co. Donegal were vested in the Land Commission under the provisions of Section 9 of the Land Act, 1931, on the 1st May, 1931. The Land Commission are not at present in a position to state when the resale proceedings will be completed. The question of the acquisition by the Land Commission of the untenanted lands on the estate is at present under consideration. It is not possible at the present stage of the proceedings to state what action may be taken regarding the persons who have lodged applications as evicted tenants or representatives of evicted tenants.

Arising out of the Minister's answer, is he prepared to give any guarantee that the principle of restoring evicted tenants, or persons claiming through them, will be observed in giving land acquired under these Acts?

The evicted tenants, or representatives of evicted tenants, who would come within the provisions of the Land Acts will be considered when the land is being dealt with.
