Vol. 46 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Landing Facilities in Bantry Bay.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he is aware that a large number of small farmers in the Bantry-Glengariff area are deprived of the advantage of using the valuable Bantry Bay sea sand for manure owing to the want of proper landing facilities in that locality and whether he will consider the advisability of having constructed a suitable landing place for such sand, the construction of which would give much needed employment and enable the poorer farmers to secure this sea sand and seaweed, which is so necessary for them and which is a complete substitute for the artificial manures they are unable to purchase.

I have not received any application for assistance in constructing a sand quay between Bantry and Glengariff. Any such application when made will be carefully considered.
