Vol. 86 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Petrol for Boatmen.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he will be able to make any allowance of petrol this season to boatmen in places like Glengariff who depend for their living on the tourist traffic; whether if any such men have some petrol already in stock they will be granted a permit to use it to run their boats for hire; whether private persons who have petrol in stock will be allowed to run their boats' for pleasure this summer without permits from the Minister.

I regret that owing to the limited supplies of petrol available for distribution, I am unable to make any allowance for use in motor boats which will be used for pleasure or recreational purposes. Whilst permits from my Department are not required for the use of motor boats, I consider that the consumption of petrol for pleasure purposes by any means is highly undesirable.

In the case of a person having a private motor-boat and using petrol only, would he be allowed to use it at present?

A permit for the use of a motor-boat is not required.

Would the Minister consider making some regulations on that matter?
