Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Gratuity.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state, in respect of Battalion Quartermaster Sergeant Cecil Ernest Smyth, No. 34543, who died on the 12th September, 1941, while serving in the Army (1) his period of service in the Army; (2) the amount of gratuity payable to his widow in accordance with the Defence Forces (Pensions) Scheme, 1937, as amended by Defence Forces (Pensions) (Amendment) Scheme, 1940, Article 14 (1) (i) and Sub-Article 2 of Article 27 of the Principal Scheme; (3) when it is proposed to pay this amount, and (4) the cause of the delay in making the payment.

The late Battalion Quartermaster Sergeant Cecil E. Smyth had 18 years' and 222 days' service in the Army. The gratuity payable to his widow in accordance with the provisions of Article 27 (2) of the Defence Forces (Pensions) Scheme, 1937, as amended by Article 14 of the Defence Forces (Pensions) (Amendment) Scheme, 1940, is £100 7s. 6d., which sum has been paid.
