Vol. 123 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Third Turf-Burning Electricity Station.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the present position of the proposal to erect a third turf-burning electricity generating station near Ferbane.

The development of the Boora bogs is proceeding according to plan. The aim is to have the generating station at Ferbane in commission towards the end of 1954 if no unforeseen difficulties are experienced.

May it be taken by the House and by the country in general that there is no question whatsoever, no reason for foundation, of the rumour that this project is shelved or likely to be shelved? His statement may now be taken as a complete denial of any rumours which are circulating in Offaly that he is shelving the power station at Ferbane?

I am not responsible for rumours. I suppose that they have been disseminated by the Opposition. The project is proceeding according to plan.

What about the weather?

What about John Locke?

The remainder of the questions will appear on to-morrow's Order Paper.

Because of the rather discourteous reply I received from the Minister for Finance, I intend to raise on the Adjournment the subject matter of Question No. 38.

The matter will be considered and the Deputy will be notified.

There is no power under legislation to do what the Deputy wants.

The decision will be duly conveyed to the Deputy.

I wish to raise the subject matter of Question No. 27 on the Adjournment.

The same answer applies.

I have already given notice in connection with Question No. 20.

The same answer applies there, too.
