asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the urgent need for swimming and recreational facilities in the Cabra and Phibsboro areas, Dublin, he will provide funds for the purchase of or aid the local authority in their purchase of the cinemas at Cabra and Phibsboro Road, both of which are for sale at present and would make ideal sites for athletic facilities.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply given to Question No. 39 by the Minister for Local Government to a similar question on Tuesday, 8th April, 1975.
The funds at my disposal for the provision of recreational facilities relate to physical education in schools and I do not exercise a function in the provision of sites for recreation or in aiding local authorities to acquire such sites. Accordingly, I am not in a position to authorise any payment for the purpose indicated in the Deputy's question.
