By circular letter of 5th December, 1974, I asked all local authorities to inform me as soon as possible of the results of the inquiries which I requested they should carry out into the structural use of high alumina cement in their areas. Replies so far received indicate that the material had been used in a total of 88 buildings. Practically all these buildings have already been subject to at least preliminary inspection by representatives of the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards. In no case, so far, was there evidence that the buildings were in any way unsafe.
