In addition, it was found that of the 17,100 school leavers who were either unemployed or looking for a job just over 3,500 were involved in the NMS Work Experience Programme and 2,500 were receiving AnCO training in May 1983. In the 12 months to May 1983 these courses provided work experience and training opportunities for almost 13,700 school leavers, which is equal to 31 per cent of all leavers who entered the labour force.
