Vol. 362 No. 13

Written Answers. - European Community Farm Accountancy Committee.

149.

(Limerick West) asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will confirm that his Department has responsibility for appointing the Irish representative on the Brussels Committee of the Farm Accountancy Data Network; and if so, if he will outline (1) who entrusted this task to his Department; (2) when his Department was given this task; (3) the present members of this committee; (4) if Ireland is alone in not having any farmer or non-Civil Service representation on this committee; (5) if any of the farming organisations have ever been consulted regarding the composition of this committee; and (6) if Dáil Éireann has ever been notified of appointments to this committee.

The EC Committee on the Farm Accountancy Data Network is one of a large number of official committees involved in the day-to-day operation of different aspects of the Common Agricultural Policy. These committees are chaired by the Commission and consist of representatives of the member states. They do not include any producer or trade interests. The servicing of the FADN Committee is part of the on-going work of my Department and the actual representation at meetings of the committee depends on the agenda and on the general work situation.

(Limerick West) asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the average income for family farms during the years 1982, 1983 and 1984 as supplied by his Department to the Brussels Farm Accountancy Data Network Committee; and if he will outline the income values in all the various categories of farms, as required by the EC Commission.

My Department does not supply any figures on family farm incomes to the Committee of the European Communities on the Farm Accountancy Data Network.
