Vol. 403 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Transport.

John V. Farrelly

Ceist:

79 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Education the reason school transport will not be provided for a student (details supplied) from Collinstown, County Westmeath to the girls' school, Kells, County Meath to attend 6th class; if she has taken into consideration the fact that a student in similar circumstances from the Clonmellon area has acquired her ticket as and from 1 January 1991 to attend the same school; and if she will take steps to rectify the situation.

The pupil in question lives within three miles of her nearest suitable school, Collinstown national school, and is therefore ineligible for school transport.

Under the terms of my Department's school transport scheme an ineligible pupil may not be allowed to avail of the school transport service to another school. I am not aware of any pupil in similar circumstances being allowed transport to Kells national school.
