Vol. 403 No. 4

Written Answers. - Cross-Border Shopping.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

105 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance (1) the value of taxes collected on cross-Border shopping and (2) the value of goods confiscated through the enforcement of the 48-hour rule during the period since this rule was declared to be in breach of EC regulations; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that precise figures on the lines requested are not available. However, the approximate figures are: (1) £48,500 and (2) £2,500.

The indications are that most travellers are continuing to observe the 48-hour rule.
