Vol. 404 No. 4
270 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline his plans for the provision of secure therapeutic detention centres for young female offenders; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
The detention centres for which my Department have responsibility, by law, are prisons and places of detention.
All offenders held in these centres have access to medical, psychiatric and other expert advice and where the advice is to the effect that a particular form of therapy is required — whether it is to be provided within the institution or outside — the necessary arrangements are made.
The establishment of therapeutic units, as such, is not a matter for my Department.
