28 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the data, if any, he has at his disposal by way of review or otherwise which indicates the extent of checks made on retail premises by the Office of the Director of Consumer Affairs in respect of the Director's policing role: and if he will provide Dáil Éireann with the information at his disposal. The Director of Consumer Affairs is independent in the performance of his functions. It is a matter for the director to decide the extent to which he enforces any piece of consumer legislation, and to determine the number of visits by his staff to retail premises which this enforcement entails.
Whilst the data requested by the Deputy is not available, the director's annual reports, which are laid before both Houses of the Oireachtas, indicate in a general way the type of enforcement activity undertaken.
