371 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the number of new companies which have to date in 1996 commenced operations in Ireland; the amount of employment so generated; the way in which these totals compared with each of the years from 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The number of greenfield project start-ups in the manufacturing/international services sector supported by IDA Ireland, together with the number of employees associated with each, is given below for the years 1990 to 1995. Details in respect of 1996 are not yet available. I will forward these directly to the Deputy shortly.

The number of new enterprises within the portfolio of Forbairt in the manufacturing and internationally traded services sectors for the same years are given in the table hereunder. Information in respect of 1996 will be provided to the Deputy shortly. The number of jobs associated with Forbairt start-ups is not immediately available. I have also asked Forbairt to forward this information within the next week.

The Forfás employment survey for 1996 is currently in progress. As a result, the figure for employment associated with new IDA and Forbairt projects-enterprises which commenced operations in 1996 are not expected to be available until December.
