Vol. 476 No. 5

Written Answers - Gillogue (Clare) Plant.

Willie O'Dea

Ceist:

229 Mr. O'Dea asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the progress, if any, which has been made on the refurbishment of the former Burlington plant at Gillogue, County Clare, to enable it to accommodate the incoming industry attracted by the IDA. [7419/97]

I am informed by IDA Ireland that the building in question was constructed in 1975-76 and would now require significant expenditure on refurbishment for upgrading. While IDA Ireland has carried out essential maintenance work to ensure environmental standards for the building, it considers that further expenditure might be unwise as any upgrading on refurbishment work undertaken may not meet the requirements of potential occupiers of the property.

IDA is continuing to actively market the site to potential investors and will do so until such time as a suitable project is secured for the plant.
