Vol. 489 No. 3

Written Answers. - Coastal Protection.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

67 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the plans, if any, he has to protect a causeway (details supplied) in County Mayo from coastal erosion in view of the fact that it is a major tourist attraction; and the plans, if any, he has to allocate funding towards this project. [8058/98]

Mayo County Council has not identified the causeway referred to by the Deputy as one of their priorities in submitting projects for consideration to date under the Operational Programme for Environmental Services 1994-1999. I regret that in the circumstances, it would be very difficult, given the limited finances currently available for coast protection, to provide funding for this project.
