Vol. 510 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tuskar Rock Air Crash.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

47 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the progress, if any, made and the interim reports to date received from the work of the review group set up between the Irish and British authorities relating to the Tuskar Rock Viscount accident of 1968. [20821/99]

Two meetings have been held, one in Dublin and one in London, between officials of my Department and officials from the UK Ministry of Defence and the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions. The structure of the review has been to address a number of questions posed by the relatives of the victims and other concerned groups and by my officials. Meetings have also taken place between a committee of the relatives of the victims and my officials during the course of this work, at which the committee was kept informed of the progress of the review.

The main areas of the review are: the initial search and rescue mission; the search for the aircraft and salvage on the seabed; the possible presence of another airborne object in the area of the flight path of the St. Phelim; and the possibility of a technical problem leading to the loss of the aircraft. My officials are preparing a report for me, which will be available in the near future, on the outcome of this review.
