Ceist:

230 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of operations cancelled in Merlin Park Hospital, County Galway during the week ending 26 November 2000 due to the lack of anaesthetists; the alternative arrangements made in an emergency situation where there is no anaesthetist; and if all operations are cancelled in such circumstances. The provision of medical services is, in this instance, the statutory responsibility of the Western Health Board. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position in relation to this matter and reply to the Deputy directly.
