Vol. 531 No. 3

Written Answers. - Rural Environmental Protection Scheme.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

148 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if REP scheme 2 contains a clause which allows a farmer with one acre designated as a special area of conservation or national heritage area to receive the higher rate of payment on all his land included in the REP scheme plan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5410/01]

Payment rates applicable under measure A of REPS 2 for target area land, natural heritage areas, special areas of conservation, special protection areas and commonage, apply only to land inside the target area. The higher rate of payment of 242/ha on target area land is based on the additional farming restrictions on such land for environmental reasons. Lands outside these areas are not so restricted and, accordingly, qualify for payment at the general scheme rate of 151/ha.
