The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children will continue its hearings on the Public Health (Standardised Packaging of Tobacco) Bill 2013 tomorrow, Thursday, 6th February 2014.
The schedule for tomorrow’s meeting is:
Session A: 9.30 am
Institute of Public Health; Tobacco Free Research Institute Ireland; Irish Thoracic Society; Royal College of Physicians; and Irish Medical Organisation; and
Session B: 11.45 am
RGDATA; IBEC; British Irish Chamber of Commerce; National Federation of Retail Newsagents; Convenience Stores and Newsagents Association; and Retail Excellence Ireland.
Committee Chairman, Jerry Buttimer TD said: “In November 2013, the Government approved the General Scheme of legislation which will introduce standardised packaging for all tobacco products. The Public Health (Standardised Packaging of Tobacco) Bill 2013 will also determine the size and position of health warnings on cigarette packets. Tomorrow we will continue our hearings on this Bill when we will hear from a number of health advocacy bodies and retail organisations on the various measures contained in the Heads of the Bill and members will also have an opportunity to raise any issues they may have.”
The meeting will start at 9.30am in Committee Room 2, Leinster House tomorrow, Thursday, 6th February 2014.
