Before considering the Herity report, the Committee will also meet with Ms. Catherine Byrne, T.D., Minister of State with special responsibility for Communities and the National Drugs Strategy to consider a motion on the proposal for an EU Directive laying down minimum provisions on the constituent elements of criminal acts and penalties in the field of illicit drug trafficking.

Session A, with Minister Byrne, will commence at 1.30pm in Committee Room 3 tomorrow, Wednesday, 8 February 2017 and Session B, considering the Herity Report, will commence at 2.00pm.

Committee Chairman, Dr. Michael Harty TD, said “We welcome the appearance of Dr. Herity, and clinicians from the South-East, before the Committee tomorrow where we will have the chance to discuss this report, an independent clinical review looking at the provision of a second cardiac catheterisation laboratory at University Hospital Waterford. This report recommends that the proposed second cardiac catheterisation laboratory at UHW was not justified and goes on to detail 8 recommendations about how service should be provided within the area.\"

“Members welcome the opportunity to discuss with Dr. Herity the specific findings of his review, how risk is being managed, geographic considerations and the demand on the existing service in WUH.”

“Committee Members will also have a chance to consider a motion on the minimum provisions of criminal acts and penalties in the field of illicit drug trafficking with Minister Catherine Byrne.”

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.
