EC financial affairs officials to discuss Ireland’s fiscal plans, risks with Budgetary Oversight Committee

28 Beal 2018, 13:03

Senior financial affairs officials from the European Commission will discuss their latest assessment of Ireland’s economic and fiscal performance Wednesday at the Select Committee on Budgetary Oversight.

The EC’s 2018 European Semester report for Ireland, published in March, contains a detailed analysis and critique of Irish fiscal and economic policy. This report is expected to influence the EC’s upcoming recommendations for Budget 2019.

The scheduled witnesses appearing after 2 p.m. in Committee Room 2, Leinster House, are:

  • Carlos Martínez Mongay and Polona Gregorin, senior officials from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs.

“Committee members will want to discuss the European Commission view of Ireland’s forecasts for 2018-2021 contained in the government’s most recent Stability Programme Update,” said Committee Chairman Colm Brophy TD. “The recommendations in this report can help us identify better forecasting models and inform our own work as the Committee scrutinises the shape of Budget 2019.”
