Public Accounts Committee to meet broadband providers to discuss National Broadband Plan

13 Feabh 2019, 17:44

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will meet tomorrow to discuss issues relating to the National Broadband Plan (NBP).

The Committee will engage with broadband service providers in relation to Appropriation Account 2017 Vote 29: Communications, Climate Action and Environment

Representatives from BT; Eir; the Regional Internet Service Providers Association; Imagine and Enet will appear before the Committee.

PAC Chairman, Seán Fleming TD, said, “Tomorrow’s meeting is a valuable opportunity for the PAC to hear from broadband providers on their involvement or non-involvement with the National Broadband Plan. Committee members will wish to discuss the challenges – financial, operational and administrative – that the providers see in respect of the delivery of high speed broadband to rural Ireland.”

“The Committee will want to hear about the providers’ experiences of dealing with the Department of Communications in respect of broadband. The committee hopes this will be a valuable listening and learning exercise, for the members and the public."

The meeting will start at 9am in Committee Room 3, Leinster House.
