The Ceann Comhairle, Deputy Seán Ó Fearghaíl, and Cathaoirleach, Senator Jerry Buttimer, have led the ceremony of lighting the Christmas tree on Leinster Lawn, an event that has become the traditional start of the festive season in the Houses of the Oireachtas.

The event, attended by the Taoiseach, Deputy Leo Varadkar, was provided with Christmas entertainment through the fine sounds of the Roscommon Solstice Choir, a voluntary, community-based choir that is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, and the Duhallow Choral Society from north Cork.
