The Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment meets tomorrow, Wednesday March 30th to undertake pre-legislative scrutiny of the Personal Injuries Resolution Board Bill 2022.
Officials from the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment will address the meeting which will take place in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House between 09:30:12:30.
Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Maurice Quinlivan said: “The General Scheme progresses commitments in the Programme for Government and the Action Plan for Insurance Reform to enhance and reform the Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB).”
“The Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB) assesses claims for compensation arising from personal injuries following road traffic, workplace, or public liability accidents.”
“The Board provides a service which assesses claims in a timely and cheaper way which benefits both claimants and respondents. It is envisaged that the General Scheme of the Bill will amend the legislation in order to increase the number of personal injury claims the PIAB would process and resolve. Greater use of the PIAB would deliver cost savings in the area of personal injuries and help to bring down the cost of insurance premiums alongside the implementation of the Action Plan for Insurance Reform.”
“We look forward to discussing the detail and nature of the provisions of the Bill with representatives.”
