21 Meith 2011, 13:22

Regarding article from today’s (21st June) Irish Daily Mirror “Senators Still Get €100K in Expenses”

  • It states that Senators' basic salary is €70,00O.
This is not the case, they get €65, 621.
  • It says that Senators received expenses for April even though the Senate didn’t sit.
Firstly, the Seanad did actually sit in April. Secondly, allowances are paid based on members attending Leinster House for 120 days per annum pro rata. It is not specific to sitting days.
  • It is also worth noting that Members who are paid the reduced unvouched allowance must certify that amounts claimed were applied in respect of expenses incurred in the performance of his/her duties as a member.
