Damien English, TD has been elected Chairman of the Committee on Jobs, Social Protection and Education.
Speaking after his election, Deputy English said: “It’s an honour to have been elected Chairman of the Committee on Jobs, Social Protection and Education. This Committee has a broad remit, shadowing three departments and will have a key role to play in providing a meaningful input into legislation and policy and informing debate on the creation and retention of jobs; promoting and supporting enterprise and innovation; developing sustainable social policies and ensuring our education system benefits all of society and is recognised internationally as a top class system. I look forward to working with all of my colleagues on this Committee and the relevant Ministers to ensure this Committee works in a true spirit of partnership and mutual co-operation and fulfils its important remit in a productive way.”
Aodhán Ó Ríordáin, TD was elected Vice-Chairman of the Committee.
The Select Committee on Jobs, Social Protection and Education also elected Members to the Select Sub-Committees on (i) Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, (ii) Social Protection and (iii) Education and Skills.
The Members of the Select Sub-Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation are: Damien English; Brendan Griffin, Seán Kyne, Anthony Lawlor; Michael Conaghan, Brendan Ryan, Willie O’Dea; Peadar Tóibín; and John Halligan. This Select Sub-Committee will meet to discuss the 2011 Revised Estimates at 11am, Wednesday 13th July.
The Members of the Select Sub-Committee on Social Protection are: Damien English; Ray Butler; Seán Kyne; Nicky McFadden; John Lyons; Brendan Ryan; Barry Cowen; Aengus Ó Snodaigh; and Joan Collins. This Select Sub-Committee will meet at 2pm on Tuesday 12th July to discuss the 2011 Revised Estimates.
The Members of the Select Sub-Committee on Education and Skills are: Damien English; Áine Collins; Nicky McFadden; Mary Mitchell O’Connor; John Lyons; Aodhán Ó Riordáin; Brendan Smith; Sean Crowe; and Tom Fleming. This Select Sub-Committee will meet to discuss the 2011 Revised Estimates at 2.30pm on Tuesday, 5th July.
