Health Minister and CEO Boss to Make First Appearance at Oireachtas Committee

20 Iúil 2011, 19:23

Minister for Health, James Reilly TD and CEO of the Health Service Executive (HSE), Cathal Magee will be questioned together for the first time at the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children, tomorrow (21st) at 11 am in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House.

20th July 2011

The meeting will provide an opportunity for committee members to question the two individuals who are in charge of the agencies with principle responsibility for delivering the country’s health and social care services.

Some of the issues which may come up for discussion at the committee include;

  • The budget overruns in some of the country’s hospitals
  • The role of smaller hospitals around the country
  • The HSE’s role in providing child protection services following the Cloyne report
  • Whether the HSE has managed to appoint a sufficient number of junior doctors

Committee Chairman, Jerry Buttimer TD said;
 “The provision and management of the country’s health services are of importance to everyone. Healthcare and child protection services have been at the top of the agenda in recent days and weeks following a series of major developments.

Tomorrow’s meeting will allow the members of the committee to directly put these issues and other issues to those charged with running the country’s health and childcare services.

“Minister Reilly and Mr Magee will also be able to inform the committee regarding any significant developments or plans which are likely to be implemented throughout the health system over the coming months.”
