Foreign Affairs Committee expresses sympathy with people of Norway following weekend terror attack

26 Iúil 2011, 14:47

The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade has expressed sympathy with the people of Norway following the tragic events in Oslo and on Utoeya Island.

Speaking at the Committee meeting today, Chairman Pat Breen TD said: “On behalf of the Committee, I would like to express our sympathy to the people of Norway in respect of the horrific deaths and injuries following this weekend’s tragic events in Oslo and on Utoeya Island.

What we witnessed in Norway over the weekend was truly shocking and I will be writing to the Norwegian Ambassador and the Chair of the Norwegian Foreign Affairs Committee on behalf of members here to express our condolences, sympathy and solidarity with the families of the victims and the injured and with all of the people of Norway.

It was truly a dark day and an appalling tragedy for Norway and we share the determination of the Norwegian people that democracy and the rule of law will always prevail over those who resort to terror to achieve their ends.”

Earlier, Deputy Breen had signed a book of condolences at the Royal Norwegian Embassy.
