Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality invites submissions on the Scheme of the Criminal Justice (Withholding of information concerning offences against children and vulnerable adults) Bill 2011

16 MFómh 2011, 15:36

The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality has decided to invite submissions on the Criminal Justice (Withholding of information concerning offences against children and vulnerable adults) Bill 2011.

Committee Chairman, David Stanton TD, said: “The Minister for Justice, Equality and Defence, Alan Shatter TD, has published the Scheme of a Bill to create a criminal offence of withholding information relating to the commission of arrestable offences, including sexual offences, against a child or a vulnerable adult.

The Bill is at an advanced stage of drafting and the Government intends to publish the Bill shortly.  The Committee has decided to invite submissions on this Scheme in advance of its publication.

This is an opportunity to allow members of the Committee to be fully informed and enable it to provide meaningful input into the legislation, make observations and suggestions before the bill comes before the Dáil and Seanad. We welcome the content of the bill and look forward to engaging with the Minister and the Department.”
