Availability of credit for business to be discussed by Committee on Jobs, Social Protection and Education

26 MFómh 2011, 12:18

The Committee on Jobs, Social Protection and Education will discuss current and future proposals to enhance the availability of credit for businesses at its meeting tomorrow, Tuesday 27th September.

Chairman of the Committee Deputy Damien English said: “Credit is the life blood of business and the availability of credit can be a matter of life or death for enterprise. Various surveys by business organisations combined with anecdotal evidence would suggest that a lack of credit is an issue for many small and medium-sized businesses and that in turn affects the economy as a whole. Whether it is working capital or finance for one-off projects, it is important that business has access to credit. Tomorrow, we will be meeting with officials from the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation to discuss current and future proposals to enhance the availability of credit for business with specific reference to the Partial Loan Guarantee Scheme; Credit Insurance; and Export Credit Insurance, while representatives of Irish Business Corporation will discuss proposals for the creation of a strategic investment fund for small and medium enterprises.”

This meeting will take place on Tuesday, 26th September, in Committee Room 2, Leinster House 2000 at 2.30pm.
