Launch of Seanad Public Consultation Committee

30 MFómh 2011, 13:27

The Seanad Public Consultation Committee (SPCC) will be launched next Wednesday 5 October 2011 at 12 noon in the Audio Visual Room, Leinster House.

The role of this Committee, which was established as part of the new procedures to open access to Seanad Éireann and its work, is to specify and publicise areas related to the legislative powers of the Seanad and to invite submissions from the Public.
Chairperson of the committee, Senator Denis O’Donovan said “I am delighted that this committee is up and running. It will provide a powerful opportunity to strengthen dialogue between the Seanad and the Public. It will also be a very public forum for debate and discussion on a wide range of subjects in the area of public policy. “
The committee will pick a topic and contributions will be confined to that subject. Submissions will be invited from the public and various interest groups. Relevant hearings will be heard in public in the Seanad Chamber, following which the committee will issue a report. The first topic picked by the Committee is “The Rights of Older People”
