Chief Executive of the Valuation Office to appear before Public Accounts Committee

19 DFómh 2011, 14:43

Dermot Quigley, Acting Chief Executive and Commissioner of Valuation with the Valuation Office will appear before the Public Accounts Committee tomorrow, Thursday, 20th October

A key issue which will be examined at the meeting is the financial control in the Valuation Office.

Chairman of the Committee, John McGuinness, TD said: “The Valuation Office is responsible for determining the valuation of property to be used for purposes of the levying of rates by local authorities. It is in the early stages of a comprehensive revaluation of rateable properties within local authority areas under a revaluation programme which will, ultimately, extend to the whole country.

Tomorrow, the Committee will want to determine what progress is being made on the national revaluation programme. We will want to know if the national revaluation programme is on target and what is the now projected end date for the programme.

We will also be examining the steps taken by the Valuation Office to put in controls and governance, especially in relation to financial transactions following the Report of the C&AG which highlighted weaknesses in these areas.”

The Committee will meet tomorrow, 20th October at 10am in Committee Room 1, Leinster House 2000.
