Oireachtas Committee on Investigations, Oversight and Petitions to meet Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform

14 Noll 2011, 17:42

Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Brendan Howlin TD, will appear before the Oireachtas Committee on Investigations, Oversight and Petitions tomorrow, Thursday 15 December, to discuss the Committee’s Orders of Reference.

Cathaoirleach of the Committee, Peadar Tóibín TD, said: \"We look forward to discussing our Orders of Reference with Minister Howlin tomorrow on how best to provide citizens with a meaningful role in the political system.

\"The Committee has undertaken considerable work in recent months, including an analysis of the European and Scottish Parliaments on the optimum way to design a petitions system for the Houses of the Oireachtas. The Committee intends to provide a pathway for citizens to bring issues of concern to the heart of the Oireachtas. We propose to connect with the work of the Ombudsman to enhance parliamentary oversight of the delivery of our public services.

\"As the Committee consolidates its work so far, we look forward to exploring these matters with the Minister at our meeting tomorrow.\"

This meeting will take place on Thursday 15 December, in Committee Room 4 Leinster House 2000 at 10 a.m.
