EU Affairs Committee engage with Tánaiste on Treaty talks

20 Ean 2012, 17:18

The EU Affairs Committee will today heard a detailed briefing on the latest state of play in European Union negotiations from Eamon Gilmore TD, Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Committee Vice-Chairman Paschal Donohoe TD says: “Committee Members had a candid exchange of views with the Tánaiste on the negotiations on closer European fiscal integration. The Tánaiste made it clear that the priority underlying the intricate negotiations is getting Europe back on a sustainable economic footing.

“The Committee thanks the Tánaiste for providing Members with the latest draft text. While we will have to wait for a final document to know whether a referendum will be required, the Members stand fully prepared to play a key role in debating the Intergovernmental Treaty and its implications for Ireland.”
