Transport Committee to continue hearings on clamping regulation

13 Feabh 2012, 14:52

The Committee on Environment, Transport, Culture and the Gaeltacht will continue its hearings on the regulation of the vehicle clamping industry tomorrow, 14th February when it will hear from AA Ireland and Retail Excellence Ireland.

Committee Chairman Ciarán Lynch, TD said: “Tomorrow we will resume our series of meetings with representative stakeholder groups to consider and discuss their views on what the proposed legislation needs to address. We are looking forward to our meeting with AA Ireland and Retail Excellence Ireland to get their observations and views on clamping regulation.

These meetings will help form a report which the committee will prepare on the issue of clamping. That report will contain a series of recommendations which will inform the drafting of legislation to regulate the industry.”

Following this meeting, the Chairman Designate of the National Sports Campus Development Authority Sean Benton will address the Committee on his vision and priorities for the authority over the coming years.

Deputy Lynch said: “Tomorrow, we will have an opportunity to question Sean Benton on his vision and priorities for the authority. He will have a chance to outline the challenges he feels the National Sports Campus Development Authority will face in coming years, particularly in the context of the planned merger of the authority with the Irish Sports Council. Members will also be able to raise any issues or concerns they may have in relation to the role of the National Sports Campus Development Authority.”

The meeting will start on Tuesday, 14th February, in Committee Room 4, Leinster House 2000 at 2.15pm.
