Leinster House Opens for Walk-Up Visitors

Committee Chairman, Tom Hayes, TD commented:  \"I am delighted to announce this new initiative from the Joint Administration Committee which will see Leinster House opening to the public for complimentary walk-up tours on Mondays and non-sitting Fridays from tomorrow, Friday, 16th March 2012.   I believe that it is vitally important for our democracy that the Irish public know and understand the role and functions of their Parliament.  Ireland has a rich parliamentary heritage that spans over ninety years and people taking this tour will experience some of that history and tradition as they walk through the iconic Leinster House building.  

On the eve of celebrating our National Day, St. Patrick's Day, I am glad to make this announcement as for the first time visitors to Ireland will also be able to avail of this opportunity to visit our National Parliament.\"

Tours are available on Mondays and Fridays at 11.30 am and 3.30 pm.  On Fridays when the Dáil is sitting, usually the first Friday of every month, the morning tour is not available.  The tour includes visits to the galleries of the Dáil and Seanad Chambers and the Oireachtas Committee Meetings Rooms located in LH 2000.  The tour entrance point is via the Kildare Street gate and visitors should arrive 15 minutes before the start of the tour.  The duration of the tour is 50 minutes approximately.  For further information about touring Leinster House please visit http://www.oireachtas.ie/parliament/visitsevents/visitleinsterhouse/
