The Joint Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality will tomorrow receive submissions on the Legal Services Regulation Bill 2011 from representatives of King’s Inns; Law Society of Ireland; The Competition Authority; Mandate Trade Union; Free Legal Advice Centres; and The Bar Council

Among the Bill’s provisions are the establishment of the Legal Services Regulatory Authority to provide for the establishment of the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal to make determinations as to misconduct by legal practitioners. It will also provide for the establishment of a roll of practising barristers and for reform of the law relating to the charging of costs by legal practitioners and the system of the assessment of costs relating to the provision of legal services.

“Our meeting will allow a number of interested parties and groups to give their perspective on the new Bill,” said Committee Chairman David Stanton.

The meeting takes place at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow afternoon Wednesday 21 March in Committee Room 2, LH 2000.

Committee proceedings can be followed live here.
