Finance Committee to discuss promissory notes with Central Bank Governor

27 Márta 2012, 12:01

Professor Patrick Honohan, Governor of the Central Bank, will appear before the Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform today, 27 March to discuss matters relating to the ELA funding and the repayment of the IBRC promissory notes.

Committee chairman Alex White, TD said: “We are pleased that Governor Honohan has agreed to come before the Committee to discuss the repayment of the IBRC, formerly Anglo Irish Bank, promissory notes. This meeting with Governor Honohan will provide him with an opportunity to update the Committee on the question of the payment of €3.1 billion of IBRC promissory notes due at the end of the month. Negotiations are currently on-going on a deal to swap the promissory notes for a long-term Government bond. Committee Members are today continuing our study of this vital issue which is an urgent priority for the country. The meeting will give Members a chance to engage with Governor Honohan and raise any issues or concerns they may have in relation to the promissory notes.”

This meeting will take place today, Tuesday 27th March, in Committee Room 1, Leinster House 2000 at 2.30pm.
