Health Committee to discuss role of Irish Medicines Board

Chief Executive of the Irish Medicines Board Pat O’Mahony will attend the Joint Committee on Health and Children tomorrow, Thursday, 27th September.

Committee Chairman, Jerry Buttimer TD said: “Given the role of the Irish Medicines Board in protecting public health through the regulation of medicines, medical devices and healthcare products, we will be interested in getting the most up to date and indepth analysis of its operations, organisational structure and performance. Mr O’Mahony will have an opportunity to brief members on a range of key issues and challenges relevant to the Irish Medicines Board at present, including changing demographics and disease burden, addressing new science and therapies that are being developed, patient engagement and the use of the internet to access health information and for self-diagnosis.\"
