PAC to review financial audits of education sector with college heads

26 MFómh 2012, 16:42

Issues which arose out of the financial audits of the education sector by the Comptroller and Auditor General will be considered by the Committee of Public Accounts at its meeting tomorrow, Thursday, 27th September.

Professor Brian MacCraith, President, Dublin City University; Dr Patrick Prendergast, Provost, Trinity College Dublin; Dr Hugh Brady, President, University College Dublin; and Dr Ruaidhrí Neavyn, President, Waterford Institute of Technology, will attend tomorrow’s committee meeting.

Chairman of the Committee John McGuinness, TD, said: “Among the key issues we will be addressing tomorrow are how universities and Institutes of Technology manage large cash balances to their best advantage, funding pensions in excess of requirements and the investment in, and consolidation of, subsidiaries and foundations. The status of recoupments from payments in excess of approved remuneration levels is also an issue to be explored. Specifically for TCD, there is the issue of breaching their employment control framework and for WIT, the question of whether policies and procedures are now being adhered to.”

The meeting starts at 10am on Thursday, 27th September in Committee Room 1, LH 2000.
