HomeBond should not be part of new Building Regulations Advisory Board - Environment Committee

16 DFómh 2012, 17:46

The Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht is to ask Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan TD not to appoint a representative of HomeBond to the new Building Regulations Advisory Board.

Committee Cathaoirleach Michael McCarthy TD said: “At our meeting today, a motion was passed requesting Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan not to appoint a representative of HomeBond to the new Building Regulations Advisory Board. HomeBond had been represented on the previous board. However, members feel that the refusal of HomeBond to appear before the Committee to explain its decision to opt out of legal responsibility to the purchasers of homes damaged by pyrite was not only discourteous to elected representatives of the Oireachtas, it displayed a lack of accountability and therefore is a matter of serious public concern.

Given HomeBond’s decision and its refusal to come before the Committee to account for that decision, the Committee feels that a representative from that organisation should not be part of the new Building Regulations Advisory Board and has agreed to write to the Minister to request this.”
